In celebration of our 100th issue, artist Emily Raubenheimer brings a favourite cover to life in a custom piece that captures the creative spirit we love to embrace

Beneath a canopy of gums in regional Victoria, artist Emily Raubenheimer begins her day in a light-filled studio at the end of a garden path. It's a space her husband, cabinetmaker and fellow painter Peter Fifer, built by hand over the past three years. “We only just put in the skirtings last week!” Emily tells me, happily. “So that’s been really lovely — it’s nice to walk out here through the trees.”

It’s a fitting setting for the 42-year-old, whose richly coloured still-lifes are beloved for their quiet drama and celebration of simple beauty. Emily’s work has appeared in
