Transforming a derelict squash court into a home was the bold vision of Carol and Martin Druce. With help from daughter Sarah, it was then extended again to make even more of its stunning setting

There can't be many people with the imagination to create a home from a 19th-century squash court but Carol and Martin Druce dreamt up a unique home from the building at the bottom of their garden.

The couple and their two children, Sarah and Nick, lived in their six-bedroom Victorian home in the Surrey Hills for about 10 years before Martin decided to convert the property's squash court into a dwelling to generate some rental income. 'Mum and Dad renovated houses together their whole married life of 49 years,' says Sarah. 'Dad was always much braver with property than anyone else I knew, and Mum was a talented interior designer, with her own business.'
