Coreopsis exudes a carefree summer spirit, its wispy stems topped by daisylike flowers. Some annual coreopsis bloom a little earlier in the season than others—but no matter which variety you grow, you can count on them for long-lasting color. Go ahead and cut them by the fistful for bouquets; snipping the plants encourages branching and even more blooms.

WHERE TO PLANT Coreopsis does best in an area that receives full sun (six to eight hours a day). It will grow in light shade but produces fewer flowers and will be susceptible to powdery mildew.
