The home of architect Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, known for his textural take on minimalism, was always going to have a quiet beauty

When Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and his wife Christine decided to go house hunting, neither was quite prepared for what they would find. Given that Jonas is the founder of Norm Architects and a key proponent of contemporary minimalism, the last thing the couple expected to fall in love with was a quaint Tyrolean-style house in a small fishing village north of Copenhagen.

As my professional approach is inspired by modernism,' says Jonas, 'I always imagined myself living in a modern building. But despite finding the property rather ugly from the outside and very tired on the inside, Jonas and Christine were drawn to its poetic, abandoned beauty.
