A wonderful life

Beautifully layered, the aesthetic of this Victorian house was influenced by the owners' travels and experiences - designer Anouska Tamony reveals how she put it all together

HOW DID YOU COME TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS PROJECT? The homeowners had acquired a handsome, double-fronted property with lovely bones and a generous layout, but it was devoid of any character. They sought a designer who could bring soul and cohesion to the interiors and discovered our work online. When we met, we talked as much about how they wanted the home to feel as we did about how it would function. That emotional starting point really laid the foundation for the project.

HOW INVOLVED WERE THE HOMEOWNERS? They were incredibly thoughtful and engaged throughout. It was a true collaboration and what made it so enjoyable was their openness to ideas. They had a strong sense of what they were drawn to, but they were also keen to be surprised.

DESCRIBE YOUR/THE HOMEOWNERS' STYLE. The owners have an instinctive, worldly taste and are drawn to texture, colour and pieces with a story. Their style is elegant but unfussy, layered but not overdone. They had some lovely artwork and furnishings collected over the years, particularly from their travels and stints living abroad in Hong Kong and New York, which helped shape the schemes.
