Future of Coin Writing

The Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG) is a nonprofit organization composed of editors, authors, writers, bloggers and content producers who cover news and feature stories about all forms of money, medals and tokens as collectibles. When NLG was founded in 1968, COINage’s then-publisher, James L. Miller, played a pivotal role, as did its managing editor, Clement F. Bailey. NLG has named four annual awards after COINage publishers or editors, including its top honor, the lifetime achievement Clemy.

Jerry Jordan, NLG’s newly appointed executive director, agreed to an exclusive interview with COINage on the occasion of his appointment. Jordan is a full-time employee of Universal Coin & Bullion, and his NLG position is a volunteer one. He succeeds volunteer Patrick Perez, who served a distinguished stint in the executive director slot and agreed to serve as awards coordinator.

What’s your vision for the Numismatic Literary Guild? The NLG has a long and important history in the numismatic community, and my goal is to continue to build on that. It will take some time and planning, but we, as a group, will achieve that goal together.

Regarding our email, there is a DNS error issue that I have been unable to resolve, and we will be getting a new email address because of it. Right now, my focus has been on fixing the website and trying to improve our email account so that I can better communicate with the membership and let them know what is happening with the NLG. I want an avenue to be able to listen to input from members about their ideas on how we can grow the organization.

Is it important for coin writers to reach out to the general public with coin market advice and caveats? Please explain.

Coin Dealer Group Adds 60 New Members

When John Feigenbaum became the full-time executive director of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNGdealers.org) in August 2023, he declared one of his major goals was to change what he described as the “unfair perception that the PNG is an exclusive organization with its doors open to only a few powerful dealers.”
