This month's recipe is based on an unusual vegetable. It looks like a small green ball but unlike peas, Turkey berries grow in bunches.

Turkey berry / Sundakkai

You might have tasted them in a Thai curry or might have even caught our cabinet minister Nirmala Sitaraman munching on them! These green balls are Solanum torvum a.k.a. Brihati Marathi Marang, Sundakkai or Turkey berry.

It belongs to the Brinjal family and comes in many varieties. But not all are safe to eat. It is known to provide a unique flavour and texture to curry. In South India it is available in abundance as it is used in both fresh and dry form.
