Thoughts for sipping

The things that you like define you and reveal you.
I had this simple but fundamental truism reinforced for me recently over a cup of coffee. As a digression, I'm beginning to feel that so much of my life experience coincides with drinking coffee that I might not exist if coffee beans could not be decocted.
In any case, I found myself sharing a brew with a friend of a friend, we will call him Silty. We have a friend in common and were waiting for that friend who messaged to say he would be delayed by half an hour or so. And so Silty and I found ourselves mano-et-mano across the café table and I found myself wondering what it might conceivably be that we would talk about. We had met socially in large group settings but never had we eyeballed each other without the deflecting presence of others.
