It is really important to validate your feelings rightly for your mental health
-
According to Ayurveda, a healthy person (Swastha) is defined as someone whose: Doshas are in equilibrium, Digestive fire (Agni) is in a balanced state, Tissues (Dhatus) and wastes (Malas) function normally, Sensory and motor organs, mind, and soul are in a pleasant state. A person who is balanced in all these aspects is considered truly healthy (Swastha).
“Samadosha, samagnischa samadhatumala kriyaha prasanna atmenindriya manaha swasthya ityabhidheeyate”.
Thus, a happy soul, sense, and mind are among the main components of health. The mind, often referred to as the ‘seat of consciousness,’ is where our thoughts, feelings, and self-awareness primarily reside, shaping our perception of ourselves and the world around us.
The Importance of Identifying Thoughts and Feelings for Mental HealthAccurate identification of thoughts, feelings, and self-awareness is essential for maintaining mental health.
Feelings vs. Emotions
According to the APA Dictionary of Psychology, a feeling is defined as:
“a self-contained phenomenal experience”; feelings are “subjective, evaluative, and independent of the sensations, thoughts, or images evoking them.”
While closely related, feelings and emotions are distinct:
- Emotions consist of mental representations (of internal or external reality) along with accompanying bodily changes.
- Feelings, in contrast, are the subjective perception of those bodily changes.
