Novo Nordisk's Wegovy price slash a game-changer for obesity: BDCDA

THE Bangalore District Chemists and Druggists welcomed Novo Nordisk's decision to reduce the price of its anti-obesity medication, Wegovy, by up to 37%.

The association described the move as a landmark step toward improving affordability and access to obesity care in India.
According to BDCDA, the price revision demonstrates Novo Nordisk's commitment to addressing the growing burden of obesity by making advanced treatment options more accessible to patients across socioeconomic segments.
It is reported that the country's obesity rate is rising rapidly, with around 24% of women and 23% of men are overweight or obese. We have officially intimated all retailers and wholesalers regarding the significant price reduction announced by Novo Nordisk India for Wegovy (inj. Semaglutide), effective November 11, 2025, said B. Thirunavukkarasu, president, BDCDA.
Welcoming this move, he stated that the overall reduction of up to 37%-comprising a 7% GST reduction (from 12% to 5%) and an average 30% MRP cutwill greatly benefit patients by making obesity management therapy more accessible and affordable.
