CDSCO sets up digital system to monitor quality of solvents
Chronicle Pharmabiz
|October 30, 2025
THE Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has set up a Digital Monitoring System on the Online National Drugs Licensing System (ONDLS) portal to monitor the supply chain as well as quality of the high-risk solvents and has asked the State drug controllers to direct all manufacturers of pharma grade solvents to obtain manufacturing license through the portal.
The measure comes as latest to the action the Union health ministry has initiated in the recent weeks following reports of alleged contaminated cough syrups with diethylene glycol (DEG) beyond permissible limits resulting in reported death of over 20 children in Madhya Pradesh.
Following high level meetings held on October 5, 2025 regarding the cough syrup mishap, the drug regulator decided that a Digital Monitoring System on the ONDLS portal needs to be established for monitoring the supply chain as well as quality of around 10 high risk solvents including the propylene glycol.
Accordingly, ONDLS portal has been upgraded and made Live by this Directorate for addressing this issue.
