Get festive WITH ADAM

I really enjoy the pace of the garden in winter. Yes, there are things to do but it never feels rushed, and with my busy work schedule it's the only time I can have two full weeks at home. Mrs Frost loves Christmas too, so we do like to go to town. I’m at my happiest spending time in the kitchen with music on, family in and out, and Islay, our labrador, for company. This year of course we'll also have Buster in the mix, which will be interesting!

You may be surprised to hear that we also like a little drink at Christmas - in fact, now the kids are older we've got into the habit of making early-evening cocktails, either on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, or both. It’s great fun to see whose looks - and of course tastes - the best, plus to have homegrown ingredients is an added bonus. Earlier in the year we make herb syrups and liqueurs to flavour gin, vodka or even whiskey, in addition to our usual chutneys, jams and herbal oils and teas. If you enjoy homemade goodies from the garden, it’s the perfect way to make the most of your summer fruit. And if you haven't grown your own this year and fancy a go, just start putting some thought into what you might want to make in the run-up to next Christmas, which is a great way to start thinking ahead for the following growing year. I promise you will not regret it.

Plus, never worry about gluts - there’s always a way you can use them, so before we get stuck into some of my favourite homemade festive treats, let's all raise an al fresco toast to that!
