And so it was... a snapshot of wine news in 2025

Consumer trends: How low (and no) can we go?

New data from the OIV (International Organisation of Vine & Wine) showed that world wine consumption hit its lowest level since 1961, at 214.2m hectolitres, in 2024. It wasn't all bad news, however; people were spending more per bottle, said the OIV. Still, moderation remains a major trend, as does the rise of no- and low-alcohol wines. Even central Bordeaux now has a dedicated 'no-low' shop, Belles Grappes (see January issue).

Drawing lots with her siblings for their father's estate, she inherited Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac. It began a five-decade journey in wine that none could have predicted, one that carries on today with her South African estate, Glenelly
