April 2024

During the first week of March it was all engines firing for Vektor Aviation as the company hosted a team of Lockton and London-based underwriters. This was the first time that some of these brokers and London-based underwriters have been hosted by Vektor to geta better insight into the South African aviation industry. Their exposure to the South African aviation industry included visits to various clients in Gauteng and North West as well as to Lanseria and Wonderboom airports.

VEKTOR AVIATION'S insight into the SOUTH AFRICAN AVIATION industry

The highlight of the week was the Vektor Aviation underwriters' conference held at Absolute Aviation's Advantage Lounge, Lanseria on Wednesday afternoon 6 March 2024. David Le Roux from PilotInsure was the master of ceremonies and in his usual humours manner he introduced the various speakers. Those who do business with Vektor Aviation know that the company is serious about personal relations and that they love opportunities to meet with clients in person. The underwriters' conference was one such opportunity.

"For Vektor Aviation, our business model regarding client liaison is about much more than an e-mail or a phone call. It is about personal interaction with our clients. This conference gave us an opportunity to spend time with some of our clients while exposing them to other aspects of the aviation and insurance industry.

Aviation, aviation insurance and those involved in this industry are close to the hearts of everyone at Vektor Aviation and we are grateful that we get to share our passion with so many like-minded people,” said Reon Wiese, the CEO of Vektor Aviation. On behalf of African Pilot I was invited to attend the Vektor Aviation event where speakers like Advocate Ronald King spoke about the forthcoming political situation in South Africa and the various scenarios that could play out depending on the outcome of the election on 29 May 2024.

Maputo airshow 2024 What a treat!

On Sunday 16 June Christine and I returned from attending the Maputo airshow and what a fantastic experience this was not only for estimated 15 000 spectators, but also the members of the media present. As always Brian Emmenis and his team were on top form with a great selection of music. The grand finale with the Puma Energy Flying Lions T6 Harvards was simply beautiful and I saw several spectators with tears in their eyes as they expressed their happiness for the airshow.

Single-pilot operations and lemon juice

Psychology researchers have found that some of the dumbest criminals and the cockiest pilots may have something in common: a hazardous cognitive bias, the Dunning–Kruger effect that hinders self-perception, clouds judgment and leads individuals to overestimate their ability. However, new psychological discoveries may provide a cure.
