In praise of pink

Whether it's blush, fuchsia or any shade in between, it is time to reclaim 'our' colour

- Janet Menzies

ENTERING a one-day event, the form usually has a section asking: 'What are your cross-country colours?' I always leave it blank because I have no idea. The event is weeks away - who knows what colour I may be channelling by then. Arena eventing in November, I tend to wear a scarlet base layer and a generous sprinkling of poppies for Remembrance Day. For a championship I feel I should be more formal, perhaps in taupe. But if forced to nail my colours to the mast, they would be pink.

Which pink though? I shouldn't still be wearing it: fashion commentator Véronique Hyland identified 'millennial pink' a decade ago now but I do love a bit of blush. Unfortunately, apart from being so over and disliked by Hyland, millennial pink has the great disadvantage of looking as if you've still got your pyjamas on, even when you are jumping a rather impressive hanging log into water at the time of the photo.

So that means real pink then, in all its fuchsia glory. Diana Vreeland,
