Fighting off the FOMO

NDC SPORT abroad holds a lot more appeal when you don't live abroad. Now, all I can dream of is the panoply of delights that our native arrangements offer. I have spent much of the current season suffering from intermittent bouts of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), especially when A-teams of special people were assembled and I saw the photos and game cards. Every one of those days is unique in a way that parties seemed to be when we were 17, and watching it all unfold from a vicarious vantage point overseas feels quite strange.

First-world problems these may be but every day is remarkable and unrepeatable. So then, the answer must be to plan some expeditionary sport that dulls the pain of days missed back home. First stop ought to be some world-class driven boar shooting in Europe (but more of that to follow). Then, perhaps, a springtime jaunt into the Julian Alps to fish for marble trout in water the colour of Bombay Sapphire.
