AS WE teeter on the threshold of a new shooting season, my mind goes back to those wonderful places our sport has taken me and to those yet undiscovered that the months ahead will unveil. Country sports offer the double-barrelled pleasure of a 'home and away' experience, and one of the great pleasures of expeditionary jaunts is staying in that bastion of tradition, the sporting lodge. The very essence of the lodge is that of a home from home where guns, rods, dogs, muddy boots and wet coats are all welcome. The best two lodges I've stayed in both have sport at their core but otherwise could not be more dissimilar.
