There are only a reported 500 of them across the globe (fun fact: there are more astronauts than perfumers) and the old versus new ways of formulating a fragrance - old school and rarefied or intrepid and flashy - often deepens the divide between the insiders and outsiders, never mind that there are more people out there who have trained their bodies to be launched into outer space.
