Making style choices eco-friendly, five jewellery designers join hands with sustainability advocates for one-of-a-kind pieces that speak the language of circularity
LABEL: PAPERMELON
DESIGNER: DEVI CHAND
COLLABORATING WITH: PRAGYA KAPOOR, MOVIE PRODUCER, SUSTAINABILITY ADVOCATE
THE SUSTAINABILITY FACTOR: Papermelon stands out for its jewellery and decor pieces made from recycled and upcycled paper. The brand ensures that they use as little machinery as possible by handcrafting everything.
ZERO WASTE MATERIAL USED:
RECYCLED PAPER
Chand tells us, "At Papermelon, I weave eco-conscious decisions into the life cycle of each piece. This includes what the product is made from, how and where it's made, and how it continues its life journey. There is no other kaarigar involved, it's just me designing and making the jewellery. I like to call them the 'Around the World Earrings', as they are made from an upcycled world atlas. Each earring is a collage of places from around the world and makes for the perfect piece for the aspiring world traveller."
Kapoor shares the same enthusiasm, and says, "I resonate with these beautiful earrings because I love to travel. I like that Papermelon is a truly sustainable brand using recycled paper, wrappers, and anything else that we would normally throw away. Jewellery defines your style, so using a material that no one would technically think of while making jewellery is quite cool and innovative. It feels really great to be wearing their pieces."
