THE UNTAPPED POTENTIAL OF MEN'S DIAMOND JEWELLERY

March - April 2025

As global demand for men's diamond jewellery surges, India's cautious approach may lead to missed opportunities in this evolving luxury segment.

THE UNTAPPED POTENTIAL OF MEN'S DIAMOND JEWELLERY

Shah Rukh Khan's bespoke brooch, Hardik Pandya's flashy studs, and Timothée Chalamet's Red Carpet neckpieces are more than style statements. They are cultural indicators of a global shift: men are wearing diamonds with confidence, not as some kind of a rebellion, but as a mark of refinement. Yet, for a category that sparkles with potential, India's men's diamond jewellery sector is surprisingly slow to catch on.

While international players innovate and expand, Indian retailers remain cautious, often offering little more than token pieces in the men's segment. The result? A missed opportunity in an evolving and, potentially, extremely lucrative space.

According to Prophecy Market Insights, a market research and business intelligence firm, the global men's jewellery market is projected to grow from $ 35.87 billion in 2024 to $75.9 billion by 2034, at a CAGR of 8.6%. In India itself, the men's jewellery segment is gaining momentum. Research and Markets, a global market research entity, expects the Indian jewellery market to grow by $ 25.6 billion during 2024-2029, accelerating at a CAGR of 5.9%. This surge is attributed to increasing fashion consciousness among men, and the rising demand for versatile and stylish jewellery pieces.

Even so, the growth is slow by global standards. As global luxury brands actively expand their men's jewellery offerings, India's jewellery industry remains hesitant, potentially missing a significant opportunity aligned with evolving consumer preferences. Cartier, for instance, has introduced bold men's collections featuring precious gemstones, while Tiffany & Co. has launched sustainable lines catering to eco-conscious consumers.

Designers overseas are also reimagining traditional men's accessories -- bejewelled cufflinks have become fashion statements, with brands like Dior, Boucheron, and De Beers incorporating unique elements, such as fancy-cut diamonds and royal ceremonial motifs, into their designs.
