Why did two best mates chop down the beloved Sycamore Gap tree?

On the morning of 28 September 2023, the world woke up to the news that the famous Sycamore Gap tree had been deliberately cut down.

The tree had stood at a remote spot in Northumberland for more that 150 years. It was a favourite with photographers and even the star of the 1991 Kevin Costner blockbuster Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
