Basil's back!

The stage show of John Cleese's classic sitcom Fawlty Towers

Fifty years ago the BBC aired the first episode of Fawlty Towers, the sitcom starring co-writer John Cleese as angry Torquay hotelier Basil Fawlty, alongside Prunella Scales as his wife Sybil, co-writer Connie Booth as maid Polly, and Andrew Sachs as Spanish waiter Manuel.

The show, which became one of Britain's all-time favourite comedies, has since been reimagined as a play and, to mark the anniversary, a recording of the West End production is being shown on U&Gold.
