When he told us about the wonderful pooches he’d met while filming ITV1 show For the Love of Dogs, Paul always brimmed with excitement. And the new series, filmed last year, begins its run this week as a tribute to the star.

TV Times caught up with Paul two weeks before he passed away, where he revealed that this time he’d fallen in love with Peggy, a gorgeous Newfoundland.

‘Peggy was so sweet,’ he said. ‘She had terrible problems with her back legs and hips. She had to have an operation, then go on kennel rest for quite a long time, which is hard for a dog, but she was so patient.’
