MICK NORTH recalls the day his daughter, Sophie, was killed in the Dunblane tragedy

DUNBLANE: HOW BRITAIN BANNED HANDGUNS NEW THURSDAY, 9PM, BBC2 FACTUAL

Mick North's recollections of Wednesday 13 March 1996 are painfully sharp. On that morning, a 43-year-old lone assailant walked into a primary school in the small Scottish town of Dunblane with four legally owned handguns and, within minutes, killed 16 children, including Mick's five-year-old daughter, Sophie, and their teacher, Gwen Mayor.

The perpetrator, who'd been licensed to own handguns for 19 years, injured 15 others before turning the gun on himself. It remains the deadliest mass shooting in British history.

'The memories just don't go away,' says Mick, 78 - who was bringing up Sophie alone after his wife passed away two years previously after being diagnosed with cancer - during an exclusive interview with TV Times.
