After garnering rave reviews as the titular dedicated detective in ITV1 crime drama Karen Pirie, Lauren Lyle couldn't resist the chance to portray a polar-opposite character in BBC2's new psychological thriller The Ridge.

The six-parter sees the Scottish actor lead the cast as anaesthetist Mia Beaton, who makes a last-minute decision to fly to New Zealand for her estranged sister Cassy's wedding - only to make the devastating discovery shortly after her arrival that her sibling has died as a result of falling from a mountain ridge.

Convinced this wasn't an accident, Mia soon believes that Cassy's fiancé, Ewan Carmichael (Scrublands star Jay Ryan), and his family are hiding something. But the grief-stricken medic is also secretly addicted to opioids, which she has been stealing from work. So has Mia really uncovered a conspiracy, or is her mind playing tricks on her?
