What to expect from the 'nail-biting' race to the finishing line

- HANNAH DAVIES

RACE ACROSS THE WORLD

FINAL WEDNESDAY, 9PM, BBC1 REALITY

After a whirlwind seven-week adventure in China, Nepal and India, the fifth run of BBC1's epic contest Race Across the World embarks on its final leg this week.

With the four remaining teams closing in on the final checkpoint in coastal town Kanniyakumari in the southernmost tip of India, unexpected setbacks mean the £20,000 prize is still all to play for. Will it be mother-and-son duo Caroline and Tom, teenage couple Fin and Sioned, sisters Elizabeth and Letitia or brothers Brian and Melvyn who will be first to cross the finishing line?

'Emotions are running high because they all want to win,' shares executive producer Lucy Curtis, 37, during an exclusive interview with TV Times. 'There have been points where they've all thought, “It's not about winning, it's about the journey.” But now they're on the last leg, it's definitely all about the winning. And it's a nail-biting finish!'

Here, Lucy tells us more...

What can we expect from this week's climactic episode, Lucy?

It's tense! As the pairs travel towards the more touristy areas of Goa and Kerala, the competition for travel tickets hots up. Also, because the landmass of India narrows towards the south, the teams start to bunch up, so it gets very close in the final stages.
