On a windswept sandy beach in the picturesque Spanish town of Torredembarra, a lucky TV Times is watching the cast of BBC1’s The Split shooting scenes for a muchanticipated two-part special.

When the London-set legal drama came to an end in 2022 after three seasons, fans thought that would be the last time we followed the complicated private and professional lives of the Defoe sisters – top divorce lawyer Hannah (played by Nicola Walker), spirited lawyer Nina (Annabel Scholey) and sweet nanny Rose (Fiona Button).

But now the siblings, along with their formidable mother, Ruth (Deborah Findlay), and Hannah’s ex-husband, Nathan Stern (Stephen Mangan), return in The Split: Barcelona, which moves the action on two years and centres around a wedding being held in a magnificent Catalonian vineyard.

‘We were all thrilled when writer Abi Morgan and executive producer Jane Featherstone confirmed there would be a special,’ smiles Nicola, 54, as, here, she joins us for a chat…
