Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman explore Europe on 1970s vintage motorbikes

Vroom with a view

Long Way Home
From Friday 9 May, Apple TV+ (first two episodes from Friday 9 May, then weekly)

Unbelievably, it has been more than 20 years since Star Wars and Trainspotting actor Ewan McGregor and his best friend Charley Boorman got on their motorcycles to ride from London to New York for their travelogue series Long Way Round.

This week, the chums, who met while filming 1997 romantic drama The Serpent's Kiss, are getting back on their bikes for a fourth instalment of their travel series: a 10,000-mile road trip across Europe, from McGregor's house in Perthshire, Scotland, to Boorman's home in Surrey, England - the long, scenic route! Over two months and 10 episodes, the pair will travel through more than a dozen countries in a route that takes them across Scandinavia, into the Baltic nations, and through Eastern and Central Europe before crossing the Channel.

And this time, they'll be riding a pair of vintage motorcycles, with McGregor, 54, on a 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado police bike and Boorman, 58, on a 1972 BMW.

Here, the pair tell us all about their latest jaunt...

Why did you choose to explore Europe this time?

McGregor We'd never explored this part of the world before, and we wanted to do a shorter, closer-to-home trip.

Boorman When you go on an adventure, most people head south towards Africa or South America, but neither of us had ever explored the northern part of Europe before.

What were your highlights?

McGregor I loved Norway. It's everything it's cracked up to be.
