Lancashire-set crime drama The Bay is back for more seaside investigations

Morecambe & lies

NEW CRIME DRAMA The Bay Sun-Tue, 9pm, ITV1(box set, ITVX)

Experienced family liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) is highly skilled at working with grieving relatives involved in police investigations. But as Morecambe-set crime drama The Bay returns for Season 5, it's Jenn herself and her nearest and dearest who are in need of a little support. 'Jenn's in a very different place this time,' reveals Thomason, 49. 'She's coming back to work after her father has died, so she's grieving. But she doesn't want to deal with her emotions.

Returning to work early, against the advice of her boss DI Tony Manning (Daniel Ryan), Jenn's first case involves the family of a young woman called Hannah, whose body is found in a canal.

Meanwhile, problems are piling up in Jenn's private life thanks to stressed-out partner Chris (Barry Sloane), who is facing an Ofsted inspection at school, widowed mother Anne (Suzanne Packer) and son Conor (David Carpenter), who's about to fly the nest.
