On 21 December 1988, a bomb exploded aboard Pan Am Flight 103 as the plane was heading from Heathrow to New York, sending it crashing into the small Scottish town of Lockerbie.

The terrorist attack - the worst in British history - claimed the lives of 270 people, including medical student Flora Swire, who was travelling on the eve of her 24th birthday to spend Christmas with her boyfriend.
