DCI Hannah Wheatley hoped DI Liz Nyles would prove a powerful ally when informant Jimmy McLennan and his wife were murdered in the opening episode of ITV1 crime thriller Protection.

However, as the six-part series continues this week, Hannah is convinced the witness-protection officer had a hand in the killings.

Because Liz was responsible for the safety of Jimmy, who was due to be a star witness in the trial of Eddie Crowther, Hannah thinks her colleague helped the kingpin bump off his former employee.
