On 13 August 1981, mother-of-two Carol Morgan was found hacked to death in the corner shop she ran with her husband in Linslade, Bedfordshire. More than 80 police officers were assigned to the case, which was initially thought to be a botched robbery. But Carol’s killer was never found.

Now, filmed over six years and mirroring the hit ITV1 detective drama Unforgotten, this two-part documentary follows cold-case detectives as they reopen the investigation in an attempt to get justice for Carol and her family.

‘Hearing about Auntie Carol’s murder was the worst shock in the world,’ says her niece Julie Welsh. ‘It never made any sense. Why do something so grotesque, so brutal?’
