HOW THE STRIKE AFFECTS VIEWERS

Not since 1960 have both the Writers Guild of America (which began its strike May 2) and the Screen Actors Guild— American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (striking since July 14) walked the picket line simultaneously, and corporate and labor remain far apart on the issues.

What does this mean to viewers? For now, networks have pivoted to provide as much fall TV as possible. CBS will feature already aired episodes of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone and Paramount+’s SEAL Team, from its sister networks, plus the original U.K. version of sitcom hit Ghosts (see “Fall Sneak Peek”

THE ROAD

“I'll be honest, I wasn’t exactly dying to do another singing show,” admits Blake Shelton, who was a coach on The Voice for 23 seasons before departing in 2023. So why did the country superstar want to join a brand-new competition series? “[Executive producer] Lee Metzger and I started kicking around this idea: What if we built a show that actually looked like what it takes to make it as an artist?” Shelton explains. “Sleeping on buses, playing for crowds that didn’t buy a ticket to see you, writing songs that may or may not pay the bills. That’s real.”
