My eyes were welling with tears. “I am going to teach him a lesson. I know who his clients are. I will tell them what a liar he is,” I said choking. “If you sling mud at someone your clothes will get dirtied too,” said my friend calmly who was driving me back home. This was about a decade back. I had met someone through a matrimonial site. A high-flying corporate consultant, handsome, intelligent, and suave who professed love and proposed marriage.

He convinced me to talk to my parents and set up a meeting. The day he was supposed to meet my parents he never showed up, and didn’t respond to my calls or messages. It was humiliating, it was very hurtful. I wanted to hurt him back. But I am so glad that I listened to my friends and silently withdrew.
The same person tried to reach out to me later. Needless to say, I never responded. I could have met him one last time and hurled abuses. I decided not to do that. Instead, I decided to move on with life. Soon memories of him and the pain it brought along faded. I was happy again!
