One of Indian cinema's most powerhouse performers, Seema Biswas is celebrated for her fearless and transformative roles.

SEEMA BISWAS

She gained nationwide recognition for her raw and intense portrayal of Phoolan Devi in Bandit Queen (1994), a role that earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress and set a new benchmark for realism in Bollywood.

With a career spanning over three decades, Seema has delivered deeply compelling performances in films such as Water, Khamoshi: The Musical and Pinjar, showcasing her remarkable range and emotional depth as an actor. Some of her other noteworthy films include Midnight's Children, Bhoot and Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa. She was most recently seen in the OTT series Kaalkoot where she played mother to a troubled cop.

Beyond mainstream cinema, Seema has made significant contributions to theatre and independent films, frequently addressing pressing social issues such as gender inequality, caste discrimination, and human rights. A dedicated artist, she has consistently chosen roles that challenge societal norms. Trained at the National School of Drama, Seema brings a strong foundation of theatre to her screen performances.

Through her craft, she continues to shed light on marginalised voices and redefine the representation of women in Indian films. Today, her influence extends far beyond the screen, inspiring aspiring actors and filmmakers to pursue cinema that is thought-provoking and socially impactful.
