LOVE IS A TOTAL DRAMA QUEEN. BE PATIENT!

|February 2024
This is an open letter a lifeline extended to all those grappling with the challenging aftermath of a lost love.

I was 20 years old when I first experienced the profound ache of a broken heart, dedicating a considerable portion of the subsequent months to building myself back up piece by piece. When, at last, I arrived at a point where I could say, “Hey, I’m okay,” I decided to bottle up that feeling with one single intention: to share it with others in the way I wish it had been offered to me.
If you, my dear, are expecting this read to be one that will leave you crying your eyes out over a tub of ice cream, I’m going to have to disappoint. With equal parts humour and heartfelt advice, this is a story about the lessons I’ve learned, a personal account from your fellow break-up survivor.
First things first, congratulations! You have officially joined the elite club of ‘The Recently Uncoupled’. While it might not feel like an achievement at the moment, especially as you continue to master the art of switching from ‘we’ to ‘me’ in conversations, trust me when I say you’re about to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
Picture it as wandering through an unexplored forest, each step revealing a new layer of resilience, courage, and the untapped strength within you.

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"
If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
