The 50 colleges in 5 countries where most Indians go for MBBS abroad

Data on countries and colleges from the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) 2022 - the latest available - shows that most Indians who completed medical degrees abroad and wrote the FMGE went to five countries.

CHINA

Number of FMGE candidates: 12,963 
Number of colleges: 101
Fees range: Rs 58,831 to Rs. 7,45,577 per annum
Duration: 6 years
Degree: Bachelor of Medicine (BMed) or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree
FMGE pass rate: Only 1,990 or, 15.30%, cleared. The pass rate has decreased over the last four years. It was lowest in 2020 and hasn’t risen to the 2019 level, when it was already a dismal 21.2%.

Despite the declining pass percentages, the number of Indians graduating from Chinese universities has steadily increased, from over 10,000 in 2019 to around 13,000 by the year 2022.

The table below shows how the top 10 colleges for medicine in China fare with regard to FMGE, accreditation and international ranking status and fees, converted into INR as per conversion rates prevailing in April 2024 where data could not be accessed, the fields have been left blank.
