Law Colleges for 2025

In keeping with our usual practice, we have ranked the 100 best law colleges in the country both public and private - to help aspirants identify options available to them.

Since the Bar Council of India (BCI) has not updated its list, we have relied on the most recent information available on the BCI website. However, we are aware that several prominent law colleges, established in the past few years, are still missing from it. According to available data, there are approximately 1,800 law colleges across the country.

In these rankings, we've included institutions like the Faculty of Law in the University of Delhi. While it offers a five-year integrated law programme, for our ranking we have considered only the three-year LLB. Similarly, for institutions like NLU Jodhpur, which does not participate in the NIRF law rankings, we used data from their annual report and publicly-available information on placements from prominent legal news outlets. In cases where cut-off datathe minimum scores in the entrance test needed for admission - was unavailable, we normalised the data based on the average cut-offs from previous years or adjusted it in accordance with the percentage of admitted students. Furthermore, faculty experience was also considered when evaluating faculty quality.

The ranking process is based on 14 comprehensive parameters, including cut-offs, geographical and gender diversity, faculty quality, infrastructure, placements, accessibility, and research outcomes. The top 100 institutions were selected based on these criteria; these are all institutions that offer five-year integrated programmes, three-year LLB programmes or both. We have also included a few notable institutes offering LLM programmes.

Education's Heroes

In India, education is shaped not only by policies and institutions but also by the people who refuse to accept inequality as the norm. They come from courtrooms, laboratories, medical colleges, village squares, and city streets, bound by a belief that learning must be a right for all, not a privilege for a few. Some take on entrenched systems through litigation and advocacy; others create small but lasting change through libraries, community classrooms, and grassroots campaigns.
