HOW DID HE DIE?
BBC History Revealed
|November 2023
There are many theories about how the king met his premature end - some perhaps more credible than others

MURDER?
The idea that Tutankhamun was assassinated has long held sway on account of his association with the 'heretical' religious changes introduced by his predecessor, and probable father, Akhenaten. This murder theory appeared to gain some credence when, in 1968, an X-ray of Tutankhamun's mummy revealed loose bone fragments in the back of his skull, indicating he had suffered a deliberate, fatal blow to the head. However, in 2005, CAT scans of the mummy revealed that the damage was likely caused post-mortem and this particular theory has now been dismissed.
