Apps slow to open

Q Although they normally start up swiftly, some apps on my Intel Mac occasionally take several minutes to open. How can I improve that?

This isn’t uncommon with larger apps such as Affinity’s creative suite. They mostly launch within a few bounces of their Dock icon, but every so often are far more sluggish, and on some Intel Macs can take a few minutes to get going. Some report similar delays with other large apps such as Calibre and even Pages.
