Authorities are making a final push to secure the forensic evidence required to charge their prime suspect. On June 3, officers descended on an area of the Algarve region on the outskirts of Praia de Luz, Portugal, near where 3-year-old Madeleine McCann vanished in 2007. Portuguese law enforcement welcomed a team of 30 agents from the BKA — Germany's equivalent of the FBI — following a request to search for additional clues in the British toddler's disappearance 18 years ago as they seek to connect it to Christian Brueckner, 48 — a convicted pedophile who was living nearby when a sleeping Madeleine was snatched from her parents' vacation rental as they ate dinner 180 feet away at a tapas restaurant at the Ocean Club resort.
