She’s used to having her love life play out on the big screen, but away from the cameras, Reese Witherspoon has felt the narrative around her relationships has been largely out of her hands.

That is until earlier this year, when she was able to announce her second divorce to the world, in her own time and in her own words – something she admits has been an empowering thing.

“To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what's happening." Witherspoon told Harper's Bazaar of her March split from Jim Toth.
