THE FORMER OLYMPIAN DUSTS OFF HER BIKE AND HELMET FOR A WORTHY CAUSE

-  Penelope Clifton

Doing it for the kids

Throughout the month of October, you might see a few more cyclists on our roads. But instead of tooting your horn or getting impatient at the slower traffic, you might want to cheer them on, because many will be donning their helmets in support of Ride for the Kids – an initiative from Brainwave Australia that supports children and their families who are affected by neurological conditions.

“We hope you will all ride with us for the kids with brain injuries,” Brainwave Australia CEO Paul Bird tells WHO.

One of those jumping on their bike is Olympian and cycling commentator Gracie Elvin. While the 36-year-old is not directly affected by neurological conditions, she knew her platform would attract the attention Brainwave needed. “When I was approached this year, I thought, ‘That's a no-brainer,’ mind the pun,” she explains.
