AN ACT OF GIVING OPENED UNEXPECTED DOORS FOR LEPA FLAIBAN'S BUSINESS

COOL TO BE KIND

Lepa's business is also keeping her cultural heritage alive. At her job in fraud at Centrelink, Lepa Flaiban used to get death threats. Sitting at a desk all day and worrying someone would be waiting for her outside did not make for a comfortable career. And after 10 years at this job, her heart was not in it.

"I trained as a chef and I always had this idea that I'd open something that would cater for events. But with life, stress and small kids, I never had time," Lepa, 42, from Sydney, tells WHO.

Then in 2019, Lepa’s father, Koyo, who she describes as her “best friend”, died. He passed away just six weeks after a diagnosis of lung cancer and it hit Lepa very hard.

“I’d never lost someone so close and it made me reevaluate life and what I was doing with mine,” she says. “It meant the day I decided to buy a food truck was actually the day I bought one!”
