REVELATIONS & REGRETS

With his new memoir, Spare, Prince Harry made good on his promise to share an unflinching look at life behind palace doors. He writes of the intense sibling rivalry between himself and his older brother (and future king of England), Prince William, his trauma over the loss of their mother, Princess Diana, and chronicles the events that led him and wife Meghan Markle to leave the U.K. and their royal duties in 2020. He also dropped more than a few bombshells, including the accusation that William physically attacked him, leaving him with visible injuries.

As his confessions continue to send shock waves around the globe, insiders reveal how the royal family is coping. “The palace won’t publicly comment on Spare,” shares one insider, “but it’s safe to say the relationship between Harry and his family has been torn to shreds.” While Harry, 38, has insisted he’s open to reconciling with the likes of William and his wife, Princess Kate, and his father, King Charles III, a second insider says he’s aware he may have gone too far. “For all of Harry’s bravado, there’s no doubt he feels terrible about how things have worked out,” says the insider. “There’s definitely a part of him that feels guilty about all the drama and stress he’s caused.”
