The Golden Bachelor's Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist end their three-month marriage amid tension over where to begin their life together

The news came as a surprise. On April 12, three months after tying the knot in a live TV wedding watched by 5.2 million viewers, Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced they were parting ways. “[We] had a number of heart-to-heart conversations,” Turner shared on GMA, “and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”

Within hours of the appearance, Us broke the news that Turner, 72, had officially filed for divorce from Nist, 70, in his hometown of Petersburg, Ind., citing an “irretrievable breakdown” of the marriage. While some fans quickly questioned the validity of their short-lived romance, former constant Susan Noles, who officiated Turner and Nist’s Jan. 4 ceremony, insisted what they had was real. “I truly believe those two fell in love,” said Noles, blaming distance for their split. (Nist resides in Shrewsbury, N.J.) “Neither one can leave their families.”
