A BREAKTHROUGH mRNA vaccine boosted the tumor-fighting effects of immunotherapy, sparking hope for an “one-size-fits-all” shot that could fight multiple cancers.

MIRACLE SHOT FOR CANCER

It's a potential alternative to surgery, radiation and chemo, a new study shows

In a study with mice, University of Florida researchers found that the vaccine revved up the immune system, spurring it to respond as if fighting a virus.

By pairing the vaccine with common anticancer drugs called immune checkpoint inhibitors, the scientists were able to trigger a strong antitumor response.

The results reveal a potential alternative to surgery, radiation and chemotherapy for cancer patients, and may offer new ways to battle many types of treatment-resistant tumors, says the University of Florida’s Dr. Elias Sayour.
