Saluting ex-president's 100 years in pictures

GENTLEMAN JIMMY CARTER

HUMBLE patriot Jimmy Carter the former peanut farmer who served as America's 39th president from 1977 to 1981 - died at age 100 on Dec. 29 in his hometown of Plains, Ga., after two years in hospice care.

imageCarter's one and only Oval Office term was saddled with nationwide gas shortages, the Iran hostage crisis, and Cold War aggression from the Soviet Union - and the much criticized commander in chief's reelection bid was buried by Ronald Reagan's landslide win!

imageHowever, Carter's greatest victory came in his postWhite House years as the public grew to appreciate the enormity of his administration's challenges and admired his decades of charitable and humanitarian work including his Nobel Peace Prize-winning efforts to solve international conflicts and his commitment to creating housing for the disadvantaged through Habitat for Humanity with his beloved wife, Rosalynn, who died at age 96 in November 2023.
