ANEW urine-based test that has been found to detect 92 percent of aggressive prostate cancer cases is poised to transform diagnosis of the disease, the most common cancer in men in the United States.

The procedure is cheaper and less uncomfortable than standard tests, researchers say

At present, there is no standard test to screen for prostate cancer, so most men have to undergo multiple tests, including digital rectal exams, blood tests known as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests, MRIs and biopsies.

Not only are many of these procedures uncomfortable and expensive, they may also result in the overdiagnosis of low-grade cancers.
