France's first couple receive a red-carpet welcome from Prince Albert and Princess Charlene in Monaco

Diplomacy never looked so glamorous as Monaco rolled out the red carpet for a two-day state visit by French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte. Welcomed with full honours by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, the French first couple arrived to a ceremonial flourish - complete with a military band and flag-bearing guards - at the Prince's Palace of Monaco.

The historic visit marked a strengthening of ties between France and the tiny principality it surrounds – but all eyes were also on the stylish women leading the way.
